The one benefit of having a diet plan like Medifast is keeping you from 'straying' outside the set plan. This happens too often when we sit down to watch TV and get the urge to eat while watching. The latest research in the Journal of Consumer Research from ASU marketing professor Naomi Mandel shows that people who are exposed to death-related images and ponder their own mortality tend to overeat.

Mandel and Dirk Smeesters, a professor from the Netherlands, worked together to conduct several experiments in the United States and in Europe. They asked people to write an essay about their feelings toward their own deaths. Participants then checked off items they wanted to buy from a grocery list.

The researchers found that those who wrote about their deaths wanted to consume or spend more than those in a control group who wrote about undergoing a medical procedure.

“People who thought about the idea of dying chose to consume more food in general, whether it was healthy or not, to put these thoughts out of their mind,” Mandel says.

The researchers found that an explanation for the overconsumption is cultural standards. In the United States, people tend to overspend on luxury items and overeat to meet a high standard of living. This made participants wonder if they had not lived up to these expectations.

“They started to question whether they have made a significant mark on the universe,” Mandel says. “If they felt they had not lived up to cultural standards, they wanted to escape from awareness by eating.” Read more...

Bottom line: We've discussed this before - the top 3 diet vices being soft drinks, fast foods, and TV. Now there seems to be even more to watching television than we previously thought (as if sitting and doing nothing for hours each day isn't enough) - the stimulus of eating when faced with images of death. While it may be the TV show that delivers these thoughts, the fact remains that sitting and being idle with nothing but the influence of outside thoughts from the TV, is certainly not healthy. Making your own decisions, thinking positive thoughts, and controlling what goes into your brain, are all important pieces to feeling and being productive in life.

We use to call the TV a 'mind zapper' because you could tell when a person watched TV for too long - they just didn't seem like they were connected to reality. And if it means another opportunity to eat, especially while sitting and burning no calories, not to mention thinking negatively, then the conclusion is avoid the TV all together. Educational channels, ok. Comedy, ok. Anything else, no. And while you're at it, do some exercise if you absolutely feel you have towatch. You can have the best of both worlds this way.

Is Medifast the Diet of a Fit 93-Yr Old?

Probably not. Medifast may not be the type of diet that a fit 93 year old is going to be seen using. Why not? Because he is and has been fit for all of his life and doesn't need help with his diet, although for most of us Medifast is a good option considering the kinds of foods available today. So who is this 93 year-old of age and fit that you're going to get fitness and diet advice from? If you guessed Jack Lalanne, you're right. He's been working out and taking his fitness and diet seriously since he was 15. Think that has anything to do with his longevity? Absolutely. How else could a man with his travel schedule, lecturing and teaching throughout the world, keep up? Tell that to Jack LaLanne and you're liable to get an earful from the legendary 93-year-old fitness phenom.

"That's a bunch of bull," he says in a recent phone interview from his office in Morro Bay, Calif. "They've got time sitting on their big butt drinking drink after drink and watching television for hours. And they don't have 30 or 40 minutes to take care of the most priceless possession in the whole damn world - your body? They gotta be sick."

NO EXCUSES

Indeed, the tough-talking LaLanne - who's affectionately known as the godfather of fitness - doesn't mince words.

He's heard every excuse in the book and he doesn't buy any of them, especially the one about blaming your parents for bad genetics.

"So many people say, 'I'm fat because my mother was fat,' " he says. "My dad died at 50. Does that mean I have to die at 50? My dad wouldn't listen. I tried to get him to exercise and eat right."

LaLanne - born Sept. 26, 1914 - has been working out since he was 15 years old, long before the days of bosu balls and core training. That's 78 years of pumping iron and he's still going strong.

A pioneer in the fitness industry who counts Arnold Schwarzenegger among his friends, LaLanne says he still works out two hours a day, seven days a week.

Hard to believe, but it's the truth, he insists.

"You know why I never lie? Got a lousy memory," chuckles the former host of a popular TV exercise show that aired from 1951-85. "These politicians better have good memories."

His vigorous training sessions, which typically begin at 6 a.m. in one of two gyms at the California home he shares with his 80-year-old wife Elaine, involve 90 minutes of weights, including classic exercises such as military presses, bench presses, bent-over rows, biceps and triceps curls, and weighted chins and pushups.

"Every workout I do is to muscle failure. It's hard," the San Franciso-born father of three adds, noting he changes his program every 30 days and focuses on different muscle groups each workout.

LaLanne, a fit and feisty 150 pounds at five-foot-seven, tops off his daily workout with 30 minutes of swimming.

When he's travelling while conducting fitness seminars and making personal appearances, he hits the gym and pool in his hotel.

"I feel great," says the man credited with opening the first modern health spa. "Of course, I have a few aches and pains once in awhile. You name me one athlete that trains hard who doesn't have an ache or pain sometimes.

"Life is tough. Dying is easy. Living, you gotta work at it. Living's an athletic event. You gotta work through it. You gotta be tough." Read more...

Bottom line: Jack Lalanne is definitely the example of a healthy lifestyle, the epitome of health and fitness. While you may not think that you can do what he does, you certainly can't unless you take the time to exercise and eat a healthy diet.

The restaurant recession is taking down multi-billion-dollar restaurant companies and “mom-n-pop” restaurants alike. In the heart of New York, restaurants are closing down on streets still thronging with tourists. It’s the same across the country.

Between January and July, the percentage of restaurant and bar workers filing unemployment claims in Hillsborough County, Florida, surged 54% higher than during the same period last year, according to The Tampa Tribune. The number of unemployment claims among all industries is up 38%.

The biggest losers are expected to be the “casual dining” chains such as Benni-gan’s and rivals Applebee’s, TGI Fridays and Outback Stea-khouse. Having done a lot of driving – and eating – in America I know whereof I speak, and the trouble with most of these “concepts” is that, apart from the lettering above the door, they are all exactly the same.

Eating in them gives you déjà vu every time. At the moment, they are all mad about “sliders” – mini burg-ers. Before that they were smothering everything in teri-yaki sauce.

Organic not so Important with Some Foods

Some questions arise with diets like Medifast and the need for better quality nutritional sources. Well, while much is said about quality of organic foods, a new report suggests that there are certain foods which don't need to be organic in your diet. The issue for most people is not a lack of good health because they are getting fruits and vegetables that lack nutrients. Most people are just not getting anything! If you are using Medifast for instance, you are more concerned about the calories you're consuming than you are about plenty of healthy nutrients (although these should be a top priority!). Bottom line: You can worry about your quality of fruits and vegetables after you have given up soft drinks, sugary drinks, fast foods, and sugary foods. Medifast Healthier than Most Restaurant Choices

There are many places you can pick up a meal - restaurants, gas stations, quick shops, grocery stores, even Sam's Club and Walmart. The record shows that when someone else is preparing your food, it's most likely not going to be healthy, and more likely, unhealthy. In the case of most low-end restaurants, what is being served may be subject to new limitations. This has been discussed before - how restaurants want the freedom to serve the foods and beverages of their choice, but are abusing this freedom. With freedom of choice comes responsibility. If you were in charge of feeding the citizens of a country, do you think you would provide hamburgers, fries and soft drinks? Maybe if you just wanted to help them stay alive for a brief time period. But iff you really wanted to 'feed' a country, you would teach them how to farm and grow orchards and gardens for the benefit of long-term sustenance.

So when restaurants that serve fatty hamburgers, fatty and salty french fries, and high-sugar high-calorie soft drinks, continue to do so with no regard to the long-term effects on the weight and health of the individuals consuming them, then the inevitable will eventually happen. Either a large percentage of people will experience a plethora of health problems and/or the government will step in with new legislation. And let's be honest, these foods are nothing less than addictive. The indirect costs to society probably can't be measured, but must be in the hundreds of Billions of dollars.

Three San Jose City Council members Thursday proposed a one-year citywide moratorium on new fast-food restaurants, arguing that the prolific eateries are fattening people - especially kids - with unhealthy fare. The proposal is similar to a moratorium the Los Angeles City Council approved last month for south Los Angeles. The San Jose proposal also calls for an indefinite ban on new fast-food restaurants within 1,000 feet of schools.

"Obesity is a huge problem within our society and among children," said Councilwoman Nora Campos, who was joined by councilmen Forrest Williams and Kansen Chu. But skeptics - from hamburger lovers to restaurant lobbyists to the mayor himself - raised doubts about the proposal.

The California Restaurant Association, which represents 22,000 of the state's 90,000 restaurants and opposed the Los Angeles moratorium, called such restrictions unfair. The industry has also been on the defensive about eliminating trans fats and adding calorie counts to its menus. read more...

Comments: The top two diet 'vices' that contribute to the obesity epidemic are soft drinks and fast food (in particular, hamburgers and fries). It could be said that if these are eliminated, the average American's weight would drop significantly over the course of 1 year. The argument could also be made that once you remove one unhealthy food, another unhealthy one will take it's place just by human nature. Either way, the fact remains that we are slowly killing the health of all mankind with these unhealthy foods. And the more expensive food items become, the more research into methods to cut costs are taken - loosely translated, even more unhealthy these foods become.

One of the reasons The Health & Wellness Institute recommends Medifast is for the same reason that most people like to pick up a meal at a drive-thru - convenience. Medifast has a meal plan that makes it easier to manage the calories consumed, while also providing a good balance of nutrition, although fruits and vegetables are still a must, as with any diet.

Medifast, Antioxidants, and Calorie Restriction Provide Anti-Aging Benefits

What is the maximum estimated potential lifespan for a human? Most authorities and researchers estimate that a human body is capable of living to be 120. Yes, years. That is significantly different than the average life expectancy of around 75 (a little higher for females). What makes it possible to live to be 120?

For starters, you could easily list a few things that may move the average down, for example deaths from car accidents. There are even the more obvious things that take a life too early that may be prevented - i.e. cancers. So what are the basics that can provide an increase in the number of years that most of us are expected to live? The number one element that has been shown to add years to an average life has to do with diet, and specifically reducing the number of calories consumed. This is referred to as Calorie Restriction (CR). Not just reducing the total number of calories, but reducing intake to those absolutely-essential calories, such as those that come from foods high in antioxidants - namely, plants.

Those interested in calorie restriction should read Roy Walford's books listed in the Resources section of this manual. Calorie restriction (CR) is the only method currently proven to slow the aging process at its fundamental level. To put it another way, only calorie restriction can currently push the maximum lifespan significantly beyond its current limits (about 120 years in humans). It is likely, however, that full application of the current non-CR techniques of life extension can increase the average life expectancy well beyond the (currently-typical) mid-seventies by stretching the healthy middle years by about three decades.

Comments: The subject of anti-aging or slowing the aging process is more and more becoming mainstream. We at The Health & Wellness Institute make every effort to motivate others to get on the road to a healthier lifestyle through proper diet and regular exercise, in addition to antioxidant supplementation. One reason for suggesting Medifast is because it does help individuals restrict their calories to just what is on their meal plan. In the past, HWI avoided recommending any meal plans because, for one, we just didn't find any good ones out there; but two, because they didn't provide the dieter with adequate nutritition. In either case, what we know now about anti-aging is just the beginning of what may soon be more well-known and proven methods for reducing sickness, disease, and increasing years to life while adding life to more years. The basic foundation of health and longevity, though, begins with a diet that is complete with plenty of fruits, vegetables, or any other plant-based foods - all of which contain high levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants seek out free radicals and render them harmless so they can be excreted out of the body without causing inflammation, which is one general cause of speeding up the aging process. Type II Diabetes is the kind that is brought on diet, most of the time barring very few exceptions. With those who are obese in particular, the body just can't keep up with the demands that are placed on it when a large amount of sugar-laden foods are continually consumed. Boston (dbTechno) - Researchers from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research have reported in a new study that they have found a direct link between weight loss, and long-term success in terms of people being able to control their diabetes. Researchers tracked the weight patterns of over 2,500 patients who were recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The idea was to track how much weight they had gained and/or lost during a period of time, and then check how it had an impact on the disease. They found that some of them lost no weight at all, while others were able to drop over 20 pounds a few months after they were diagnosed. read on...

Bottom line: A healthy diet is the best way to not only prevent sickness and disease, but often times reverse the damage caused by an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. While Medifast is one option for a balanced diet, it is not the only route to getting back to good health. Daily exercise and avoiding processed foods and soft drinks is certainly important too. So if you want to give yourself the best chance to stay healthy, choose the foods that will provide the proper nutrients that your body needs, instead of those that just taste good. Comment: This is a time when we can get excited about all the new developments and discoveries on the care, prevention, and even reversal certain conditions. There are a plethora of superfoods to add to your diet and can assist with the helping avoid disease and sickness; there are new discoveries related to genomes and genetic mapping that may soon allow a treatment program for a patient with a disease, by using that patient's own cells and cultivating them to higher strengths and reinjecting them back into their own body. (It would be like taking your very best, elite trained soldier and cloning him a million times to fight a battle).

The bottom line for maintaining good health and wellness is to stick to a balanced diet, get plenty of exercise (recent reports suggest running or jogging is one of the best for maintaining your youth), and add some superfoods or phytonutrients to your diet and meal plan. Antioxidants are what "it" is all about for good health. And, who knows, maybe in the next 10 years with the computer and software technology, a discovery will be made to adjust the genetic makeup to allow 20 years of healthier, longer life.

Married Folks Live Longer, But a Healthy Diet Important too

While we like to talk about the benefits of a healthy diet in preventing sickness and disease, as well as increasing longevity, there are other factors that contribute to a long and healthy life. Like being married for instance. It turns out that marriage is a good thing for adding years to your life, and life to your years (although I'm sure there'd be a couple or two who might not agree with that statement!). Although with so many divorces and re-married people, it may be hard to know if it's just marriage that makes for a long, healthy life or the only-once married couple who have a lifetime commitment. Interviews with today's never-married men suggest they are healthier than never-married guys were three decades ago, researchers say. And that's helping single males gain some ground, in terms of their health, compared to married people.

"One of the most-often documented facts is that married people are healthier than non-married people, but the difference between married and unmarried people has changed over the past few decades," said the study's lead author, Hui Liu, an assistant professor and sociologist at Michigan State University in East Lansing. Every athlete who competes at the highest level knows that there is no room for error. Be it diet, the training regimen, or the mental focus - i.e. visualization - that must be adhered to each day, it is all equally important. If you had a chance to see the first even where Michael Phelps took Gold in the 400 IM, it was quite a site. A Simple Diet Like Medifast May Make Dieting Easier

The problem with most diet and meal plans? They either aren't the foods you like or they aren't the foods you want to prepare. Medifast is an example of how you can find foods you like (some you may not, it's a matter of pallette), and find that they are easy to prepare. However, with many diets, people get into consuming unhealthy foods, and you might not even be aware of it. Here's an overview of the foods that are doing some of the most damage in most American diets. The three whites - sugar, salt, and flour - should be avoided, along with many tens of thousands of other things. "There's never going to be one particular food that's marketed to help you lose weight that's going to do it," said Dr. Ann Kulze, nutrition and wellness expert. Low-calorie frozen meals are usually a good choice, but not always. "Avoid the great white hazards, these refined carbs, white flour, white rice, white potatoes, sugar," Kulze said.

Another diet food loser is the liquid lunch. "Liquid calories simply do not suppress the human appetite to the same degree of solid food calories," Kulze said. Low-carb foods? Proceed with caution.

Bottom line: You can take the guess work out of your diet if you just start by focusing on the obvious. That is, fruits and vegetables are to be consumed more than you do now - since, according to statistics (or estimates), the average American consumes less than half of what they need per day. Second, just don't drink anything with sugar in it. Period. That will eliminate a lot of calories, unhealthy ones if you consider that most have high-fructose corn syrup as their main source of sugar. And, if you need a SIMPLE diet plan where you don't have to guess about what foods and when, then try Medifast. It's not everything, but it's a great start to a healthy and fit figure. Those things will get more than 75% of the way to your weight loss goal (if you have one!). It's the Omega 13 - atom rearranger that will transform your body (and the universe), reversing damage done from years of poor dieting. Ok, that's the Omega 13 from Galaxy Quest, just watched it, and it is quite funny. But for real, there are Omega 3's that are good and needed by the body for certain things. For this reason, many scientific studies use fish and fish oil, which both contain fats composed mostly of EPA and DHA, interchangeably. Medifast Diet can Prevent Negative 'Feelings' of Self-Image

I like this take of how women can get that distorted view after eating 1 cookie, or taking 2 bites of that chocolate cake. How many times have you heard yourself say, "I feel fat", after just 1 bite or one scoop of 'whatever'? Is this to keep emotions in check, sort of an internal promise of that means I'm going to really try harder tomorrow to get in shape? Or maybe it actually programs our body to, in fact, grow a size even if it's only 75 calories that we've just consumed! Wow, that can't be fair!

If you have a meal plan that keeps you on track eating healthy, this could be prevented. While we may like to indulge in the one or two treats that our calling us to 'try' on a regular basis, sticking to a healthy diet is still only the first step to a positive self-image. Watching what you 'say' about yourself, what you think too, is surely important in building self-esteem and confidence, not to mention helping drive you to your goal of a healthy weight. What words we use to describe our body is not describing WHO we are. Maybe a WHAT (a human, with arms, legs, ok some adipose tissue, eyes, etc.), but not WHO. The WHAT is just your vehicle, while your WHO is YOU that exists within that vehicle (body). I know, this is deep, but it's true. Here's a bit lighter read on the subject of what may be amount to a distorted view if you're consuming some of those 'treats', as reported on CNNc.om (from Oprah.com)--

One portion of macaroni and cheese. One slice of chocolate cake. One pair of svelte black pants. Do some very simple, if highly emotional, addition and subtraction, and you arrive at a whole new way to see yourself. There is no way that I actually was; my jeans, although dorky, fit just fine. Medifast Diet Could Reduce Childhood Obesity, Because too many Kids' Meals are Fattening

McDonald's workers should start asking "Would you like a toy, fries or a Life of Obesity w/ your Happy Meal?"

WASHINGTON - Parents looking for healthy meal choices for their children are likely to find slim pickings on the menus of the nation’s top restaurant chains, according to a report released Monday by a nonprofit public health group.

Nearly every possible combination of the children’s meals at Kentucky Fried Chicken, Taco Bell, Sonic, Jack in the Box, and Chick-fil-A are too high in calories, the report by the Center for Science in the Public Interest said.

The report looked into the nutritional quality of kids’ meals at 13 major restaurant chains. The center found 93 percent of 1,474 possible choices at the 13 chains exceed 430 calories — an amount that is one-third of what the National Institute of Medicine recommends that children ages 4 through 8 should consume in a day.

If we want to reverse the trend of childhood obesity and the economic ruin that is sure to follow them into adulthood, we have to do something about it NOW. The best, easiest and most effective way to END obesity is to implement Vice Busting: getting rid of soft drinks and other high fructose laden beverages, STOP consuming "fast food" or unhealthy, calorie dense restaurant foods (Subway is the only one that makes my cut and even there you have to order smart). And get up off the couch and get some exercise!

Research reveals Americans can fatten their wallets in a tough economy by shrinking their waistlines.

Fast foods are difficult to make healthy because of just that - they're fast. You can't get food fast unless you sacrifice the quality... most of the time a LOT of quality. With the exception of fruits and vegetables - even a salad - it's just not that simple to create food that 'we' have become accustomed to. But is it really difficult to make a meal fast? Maybe it is, yet there are certain foods that just sell better, have better margins of profit, and are quite possibly addictive? Here's a report about the trouble kids have and how fast foods play a role --

Most kids' fast food meals are unhealthy, loaded with too many calories and too much fat and sodium, according to a report issued today by the Center for Science in the Public Interest. "You can hunt around and you will find a few [kids'] meals that are nutritionally pretty good," says Michael Jacobson, PhD, executive director of the CSPI, a Washington, D.C.-based advocacy group. "But the vast majority of meals are too high in calories, saturated fat, or sodium. They are all made with refined white flour rather than whole wheat flour -- not the kind of meals we ought to be encouraging people to eat."

Bottom line: You just won't get the nutrients that is needed for a growing child in a restaurant unless they're serving fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, and so on. Most restaurants want taste first, profits a close second, and nutrition a distant third. Take the time to get yourself the foods you need for health, before you decide to go restaurant shopping. Medifast Could be a Life Saver for Overweight Teens

Too many teens are struggling with extra weight. It is becoming so common that I'm beggining to believe that society is becoming numb or just 'used to' the fact that the obesity problem is there. Afterall, it's not like a serious problem like an axe murderer on the loose is it? No one is actually getting hurt from this epidemic, are they? Well, other than the person who is overweight, missing out on a "normal" and productive life with attention on dreams and goals; or the family who cares about this child and their future; and if you want to go so far as to consider the cost to society - that is, the taxpayer - from healthcare to lost work and so on. I'm sure there are others that I'm forgetting. Now this particular story is about a young teen from South Whales who has a severe weight problem, who, ironically, is coming to the fattest country in the world (the US?) for a boarding weight loss school for kids her age to assist with the problem. It is possible that a meal plan like Medifast could provide a solution or even save her life. Bottom line: Health, wellness, fitness, good nutrition - these should all be things that are not taken for granted, but also shouldn't need to be an entire institution or industry. Ideally, we'd live in a society where the unusual is for someone to be unhealthy and overweight, not the other way around. But we've indulged ourselves in more ways than just food - how about crappy food (oh, it may taste great) created and sold for the sake of profits; all of the technologies and luxuries that have made us lazy contribute to the problem. It's time we move the ship in the direction of health and wellness. It is finally coming true. The government is stepping in and regulating our freedoms because 'we' can't make responsible choices for the benefit of good health. And with trans fats being phased out, this will be the beginning of more to come over the years. Bottom line: We've got to collectively make healthier choices for the sake of keeping government out of our lives and keeping our freedoms. We're not for laws that define what we can and can't do, but we are for responsible choices. And that means that any product made for consuming should have a certain minimum when it comes to health and well-being of each individual. Fortunately for diet and meal plans like Medifast, there won't be a need to remove unhealthy fats. Although such diet plans should continue to strive to improve in any way they can. A Healthy Medifast Diet along with Lifestyle Choices Increases Longevity

We talk about how important diet is to your life and your health, but it also factors in to your lifespan - that is, how long you can expect to live. Here are some tips to follow that will keep your health optimal and prevent sickness and disease.

1. Avoid Tobacco. The number of carcinogens in cigarrettes and other tobacco products is very high. Some estimates show the count to be as high as 200 known carcinogens - cancer-causing agents. Elimintating tobacco will immediately add years to your life.
2. Limit Alcohol Intake. While some alcohol may be beneficial - red wine has been touted to have benefits to the heart and blood - that doesn't mean that more is better. Too much alcohol may effect your brain power (ever heard that alcohol kills brain cells?), also breaks down collagen which translates to sagging or wrinkled skin, and with long-term use can damage organs (the liver). So, in moderation!
3. Get Adequate Sleep. Studies show that those who aren't sleeping enough are more inclined to carry extra pounds (overweight?), not to mention an inability to problem solve and think at their optimal level. When you're tired, you may tend to make more mistakes, be less motivated, and accident-prone. Get somewhere between 6-8 hours. If you have a good diet and follow #1 and 2 above, you are more likely to wake up well-rested.

4. Find a Job you Love. Believe it or not, if you're dreading going to work you're just cutting years off your life not to mention life off of your years. Why do something that you aren't passionate about? If you can't find and do what you love, then at least list all of the great things about your current job that make it enjoyable. Listing things like 'I get to work inside in a comfortable environment', 'I get paid vacactions and benefits', and so on, can make you appreciate even the simplest of things about your job. But don't wait to start looking for that something that you feel truly passionate about. In the end, you will enjoy looking back at your life's experiences knowing you got to do what you loved!
5. Have Faith. While there seems to be a minority of voices that would like to remove God and any mention of Him from schools, stadiums, work places, court houses, and government offices, the reality is that those who live with some sort of Faith in a higher power - be it God, a Creator, Buddha, whoever - are going to live more peacefully, have better health, and a higher longevity.
6. Exercise Regularly. I don't need to tell you how important this is, books have been written about the thousands of different ways to exercise. Exercise use to be a part of life and no one called it exercise. That's because we used to farm and hunt almost everyday to get food and survive. Now we can sit all day and earn a living, so we have to find time to 'exercise'. This will help keep support good health in every way - lower stress levels, increase energy, and make you look great!
7. Eat a Healthy Diet. A diet that is rich with fruits and vegetables is the best. Everything comes second to that food group believe it or not. If you need a meal plan to go with your fruits and vegetables, we like Medifast. The other side of a healthy diet is avoiding those foods and beverages that will add stress to your body and take off years of your life - fast foods, soft drinks, processed foods; foods with MSG, high amounts of sugar, or fat. There are more things to avoid than foods to eat. That actually makes your diet easier, but sometimes makes avoiding the unhealthy difficult. Do it anyway. You will feel empowered and healthy!
8. Take Antioxidants. While there are many ways to supplement your diet, it is important that you do it with the intention of giving your body antioxidants for the prevention of sickness and disease. As things are progressing now, every person in America will be overweight in the next 3 decades, according to Obesity magazine. While this may seem to be the case as things go, there may be some changes on the horizon that casue a shift toward a slimmer America. Will it be that all foods will be genetically engineered to prevent too much absorption of calories? Will it be that with high-tech computers and genetic engineering that we are able to alter human chromosomes so that every individual will be able to maintain a 'healthy' weight regardless of what they eat? Or will there just be some natural or unnatural disaster that wipes out a population of people and changes the world in ways that drastically effects food supplies or other commodities? Or is there just some other unknown or unforeseen situation that will happen to Earth - aliens? space travel? - that will put people's minds and attention on something so great that keeps their attention and focus away from food? The news broke today of a study that’s got the blogosphere and the media buzzing. The paper, published in the July issue of Obesity, was done by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Using a mathematical model, the authors projected the future prevalence of obesity and the BMI distribution in the U.S., based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Study (NHANES) collected from the 1970s through 2004. Their results? If current trends continue, a whopping 86 percent of Americans will be overweight or obese by 2030.

So, are we going to just sit back and keep doing what we're doing? Or are we going to change? The one constant in life is certainly change. And, it is amazing how the world has a way of correcting itself - be it the economy, health, commodities, etc. Recently, our family had a discussion about how amazing the universe is - go here to view the Hubble pictures of space (amazing!!). The conclusion of our discussion was that we, the people of this planet, put so much time and attention on such petty things in life, that if we all knew even just a little more than than we know now about any one of the trillions of other galaxies out there and the probability of millions, if not billions, of other life forms out there, we may put a different perspective on the 'problems' we have, and instead realize there is so much more we could be discovering out there. But we'd have to work together. This is a topic that could be discussed for hours and even days with all the new information that exists, but still where does it lead us? The answer? To more possibilities than we ever thought possible. Just some 'food' for thought. In the meantime, let's each do what we can to live healthier so we have that opportunity! Wouldn't it be a shame that we can't solve what should be a minor 'problem' like obesity, and any of the other thousand 'problems' in the world, when we could be focusing on discovering, exploring, and habitating other worlds!?
